 Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM)

The Texas A & M University, TAMU http://www.cvm.tamu.edu made the research financed by the Great Danes Club of America, GDCA, since the beginning of 2006, to find a gentest  for the DCM.

Because of the hereditary component of this disease, this gentest should make it possible to eliminate it.
The DCM is in the United States the first cause  of death of the great danes males,  far in front of all cancers and bloats. It is a world problem because the disease is very often  neither recognized nor treated.

The researchers need genetic material  to study. They need samples coming from great danes with declared DCM as well as healthy ones in order to make comparisons.
They thus need a specific cardiac echography and a little saliva.

To know more about its hereditary feature: heredity

You will find here all what you must know to take part in this search for gentest: what ?

Document to be supplemented and join to your file: questionnaire

See the buccal swabs: picture 1  picture 2

chronological order

- Contact the cardiologist or a veterinary surgeon who can do the cardiac echography and take appointment, if your dog never had this examination.

If you already have made this examination more than one year ago, and your dane were healthy, thank you to remake it and join to your file this last echography.

If your dog is already declared infected with DCM,  join a copy of the echography having allowed the diagnosis.

- send to me the demand for buccal swabs

- send the complete file directly to the United States.
